Fantastic as always! Delicious food, we had the beef and black bean with a large fried rice shared between two and it was the perfect amount. Another person had the duck which they enjoyed. Fast and friendly service.

This place serves fairly authentic Chinese cuisine. We needed a spicy fix and the mapo tofu did not let us down. It packs a punch and we love it.

Dining at Canton Restaurant – Authentic Cantonese Cuisine was an outstanding experience from beginning to end. Our group of thirteen enjoyed a truly memorable afternoon, and much of that was thanks to the warm, attentive, and highly professional service provided by Judy. With so many of us ordering multiple courses across the table, it could have easily become complicated, yet Judy handled it all with remarkable grace and efficiency, remembering each of our numerous requests without ever needing a reminder. The flow of the meal was seamless, and we were struck by her ability to maintain both friendliness and precision in such a busy setting. The food itself was exceptional—every dish was beautifully presented, generous in portion, and full of authentic Cantonese flavors that balanced freshness with tradition. From delicate dumplings to richly layered main courses, the variety and quality were consistently impressive, leaving everyone in our party thoroughly satisfied. The atmosphere complemented the meal perfectly: lively yet comfortable, making it ideal for both groups and families looking to enjoy a genuine dining experience together. Overall, the evening showcased not only the culinary strengths of Canton Restaurant but also the pride and professionalism of its staff. It is rare to find such a combination of authenticity, flavor, and service excellence, and we would gladly return and recommend it to anyone seeking top-tier Cantonese dining.

Dining Experience @ Canton Restaurant Launceston. . Established in 1961 and run by the 3rd generation of the family today, the Canton Restaurant Launceston is the city's longest-serving Chinese restaurant. . Ambience is traditional and functional. The brightly lit place has decently comfortable modern furnishings, with simple touches of oriental decor. However, the facade looks plain and unassuming. . Service is friendly, with staff greeting and seating guests quickly, demonstrating keen insight on the menu. I note they clean up efficiently when diners leave, and manage queues well. Big thanks to our server Evelyn, who was polite and kind, very helpful!. . Food is mostly traditional Chinese Cantonese and Chinese Mandarin cuisine, though they also have a small selection of modern fusion dishes as well. Dishes are well executed using time-tested family recipes, and are consistently tasty. . Portions are sized for communal group dining. Prices are reasonable for a restaurant, budget about AUD $48 per person. . These are the dishes we loved: - Hot And Sour Soup (AUD $11) - Egg Flower & Tofu Soup (AUD $10) - Satay Beef (AUD $30.50) - Stewed Duck With Mushrooms (AUD $39) - Salted Fish, Chicken And Tofu Claypot (AUD $29) - Stir-Fried String Beans (AUD $23) - House Special (AUD $31.50), Sweet And Sour Pork, Cashew Chicken - Deep-Fried Ice Cream (AUD $12)

Ordered a variety of things to try. There's a sampler set of cashew chicken, fried rice and sweet sour pork, hot and individual soups such as sour soup, egg drop soup, steamed fish (snapper), tofu with salted fish, fried french beans, satay sauce beef and braised duck with mushrooms. Staff suggested that we take the small bucket of steamed rice since we were in a party of 5. Saw that other tables had ordered fried rice, honey chicken and chicken gyoza. The sweet sour pork was nicely fried with crisp skin and tender meat. Same goes for cashew chicken, pretty flavourful in an old school way. The braised duck was lovely, especially with skin intact. Sauce was flavourful but not overpowering. The hot sour and spicy soup was adequately sour. No additional vinegar is needed. Loved the tender sliced beef, though am not used to this version of 'satay' sauce. The snapper (500gm) was unfortunately over steamed. Sauce was nice though. Staff was lovely and Evelyn was helpful in her recommendations and responding to all our queries. Thank you for helping to portion out the duck and fish. Ended our meal with fried ice cream.
